One of the state’s top political commentators has warned the right side of politics to change its tune, as the Liberal Party suffers an annihilation in the election.

Dr Nic Economou, Senior Lecturer in Politics at Monash University gave Neil Mitchell his final thoughts at the end of election night.

“The Greens have performed fairly poorly, they’re struggling to hold their seats, they only have one,” Dr Economou said.

“Clearly Labor is going to have a very, very large majority in the lower house.

“I’m surprised and stunned at the swing to Labor in metropolitan Melbourne.

“The non-Labor side of politics needs to think very carefully about what it’s doing, because the National Party has also fallen a bit.

“It’s been an extraordinary night.”
