Sam McClure says Leon Cameron is the “obvious choice” Essendon have been left with as they look for a new head coach.

It comes after Ross Lyon confirmed he wouldn’t be part of the application process after being approached by Essendon’s head of football Josh Mahoney.

Sam also said Brad Scott, currently head of operations at the AFL, had also ruled himself out.

“The list of experienced coaches – well it’s diminishing,” he said on 3AW’s Sportsday.

“You’ve got Don Pyke who’s made it clear that he wants to stay in New South Wales.

“Ken Hinkley has already said that he will be coaching Port Adelaide next year … Leon Cameron’s the obvious one.”
