Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says there’s only one tax his party is “considering” raising.

In an interview with Neil Mitchell, Mr Albanese ruled out new taxes for average Australian and indicated Labor is looking at new taxes for multinational corporations.

NEIL MITCHELL: “Are you able to promise no new taxes?”

ANTHONY ALBANESE: “We’re considering the issue of multinationals and we’ll have more to say about that.”

NEIL MITCHELL: “What about new taxes on average Australians, wage earners, PAYG?”

ANTHONY ALBANESE: “We’re not interested in that. What we’re interested in is lifting living standards and lifting the cost of living pressures off ordinary wage earners who are doing it really tough.”

Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg last week accused Mr Albanese of preparing “new taxes in secret” after he failed to distance himself from ruling out family trust taxes.

But the Labor leader today said he’s not given new family trust taxes “any consideration”.

“I know there’s been some speculation and nonsense from the other side of politics,” he said.
