Melbourne CBD laneways could become night markets once restrictions ease, under a plan being considered by the Melbourne City Council.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp says trading hours could be extended in a bid to lure people back into the city.

“There will be more hospitality traders able to trade outside,” she told 3AW Breakfast.

“We’re also saying to our retailers ‘come on out onto the pavement, bring out a rack of close, a trestle table full of gifts and trade longer into the evening.”

The plan will come into effect once Victoria reaches reaches the 70 per cent fully vaccinated target.
