The power of food and the mood
A healthy diet could be the key to keeping depression at bay.
3AW Breakfast spoke with Professor Felice Jacka, Director of Deakin university’s Food and Mood Centre who has recently finished a trial that reveals the power of food on the mood.
‘We took people who already were depressed, we randomised them to get either social support…or dietary support’
After conducting the trial Professor Jacka said ‘In the dietary support group where we help them to improve their diet, increasing the intake of healthy foods and also reducing the intake of the unhealthy foods, that was the group who did far better on their depression at the end of the trial.’
‘It’s about improving the quality of your diet, so you need lots of food with nutrients, fibre, vitamins, minerals and of course you also need to avoid the bad stuff’.
