The South Australian government is considering toughening truancy laws, and Tom Elliott thinks it’s a proposal which could be adopted here in Victoria.

It’s being proposed parents be fined if their children don’t go to school, which the 3AW Mornings host thinks “makes a lot of sense”.

But he thinks it could be extended even further here in Victoria.

Child and adolescent psychologist, Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, thinks South Australia could be onto something with their tough stance on truancy.

“If I was the Premier of any of these states, I’d be putting a hell of a lot more money into strengthening parenting programs,” Dr Carr-Gregg told Tom Elliott.
