The proposed form of punishment an expert says a disgraced MP should receive instead of prison time
A criminal justice reform research analyst has proposed an alternative form of punishment following the sentencing of former Victorian cabinet minister Russell Northe.
Mia Schlicht from the Institute of Public Affairs says rather than imprison him, he should be taxed.
“It’s important to highlight Russell Northe has done the wrong thing and he absolutely needs to be punished … however he is non-violent and does not pose a large community safety threat, and ultimately, his imprisonment will end up costing the tax-payer,” she told Tom Elliott.
