The push to give frontline workers a COVID bonus payment

The Greens want Victoria’s frontline health care workers to be given a $9000 bonus due to COVID-19.

Dr Tim Read, the member for Brunswick, says it should go to anybody who has a “hands on” role in the public health system and touches patients.

“Basically anybody earning up to $90,000 who is involved in hands-on care,” he told Neil Mitchell.

Dr Read said many workers were being asked to re-train, work longer shifts, and wear uncomfortable protective gear for hours on end.
