Calls to increase speed limits on highways have gained momentum following Liz Truss, the woman tipped to be the next UK Prime Minister, hinting at scrapping motorway speed limits.

Liberal Democrats NSW president Dean McCrae has recently come out and said the party wants speed raised to 130km/h on some NSW roads.

For a Victorian perspective, Liberal Democrat’s MP for South Eastern Metro, David Limbrick, has claimed the topic is worth exploring.

“I’m open minded, if we’ve got far more modern and safe cars with lots of new safety features and good quality roads, why shouldn’t we look at the possibility of increasing speeds,” he told Tom Elliott.
