The push to make wealthy countries pay ‘climate change reparations’ at COP27

World leaders are descending on Egypt this week for COP27, the United Nations annual climate change conference.
A big item on the agenda is “climate change reparations” – the plan to make industrialized nations pay developing countries hit hard by climate change.
Richie Merzian, Climate & Energy Director at The Australia Institute, told Tom Elliott Australia would be asked to contribute.
“It would be divided across developed and developing lines,” he said on 3AW Drive.
“And as an industrialized nation that’s benefited from endless emissions then Australia would be part of this picture.”
“But you can’t, at the international level, force countries to do something that they don’t want to do, and there still is a resistance to doing this.”
