The push to scrap the ‘worst tax’ in Victoria
Victoria’s upper house of parliament has voted to look into whether stamp duty should be scrapped, a tax Liberal Democrats MP David Limbrick says is “the worst” in the state.
Quentin Kilian, CEO of Real Estate Institute of Victoria, said the discussion was welcome because stamp duty was a “lazy and inefficient” tax.
But he said it was unlikely to be scrapped completely, given it raised $12 billion for the state government each year.
