The questions Tom Elliott has on the Victorian treaty
Tom Elliott has several questions about the treaty tabled in parliament on Tuesday afternoon, which would make Victoria the first state in Australia to introduce a treaty.
If passed, it would make the First Peoples’ Assembly, under a new authority called ‘Gellung Warl’, permanent.
“I have a lot of questions about this treaty that has suddenly been foisted on us yesterday,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

“Why doesn’t the Victorian government ask us what we think?
“It’s in my view, an attempt by the state government to distract us from the crime crisis that is gripping this city.”
Victoria’s inaugural Treaty Advancement Commissioner between 2018 to 2020, Aunty Jill Gallagher, then responded to Elliott’s questions later in the program.
“It’s not an overriding voice, it is advice to government,” Ms Gallagher said.
