Tom Elliott has taken exception to an idea from the Federal Labor Government to increase the number of parliamentary MPs and senators.

The 3AW Mornings host said, “The idea that we have to spend tens of millions of dollars more of increasingly scarce taxpayer dollars on extra politicians is ludicrous.”

Director of Democracy and Accountability at the Australia Institute, Bill Brown, told Tom Elliott, “I think it is a good idea.”

“The reality is that most Australians can’t name their local MP, have never spoken to their local MP, and wouldn’t feel comfortable approaching their local MP with an issue.”

“More politicians means more access to decision makers”, he added.
