The reality of breakfast television that hit Matt Shirvington ‘hard and fast’ on his first day

New Sunrise co-host Matt Shirvington says he’ll always remember his first day in the chair for the Hunter Valley bus crash tragedy.

He told Neil Mitchell it was an immediate reminder about what the job is.

“It hit me hard and fast at 5.30 in the morning on Monday – that’s the job,” he said on 3AW.

“It’s not always fun and games and uplifting stories, sometimes you’re going to have to confront the heartbreak head-on.”
