Melbourne was enveloped in a thick haze on Wednesday afternoon.

After several days of warm weather, cooler conditions have seen winds change direction, pushing haze from interstate fires into central Melbourne.

“There’s some fires down in Tasmania and they’re pretty significant,” State Control Centre spokesperson Luke Hegarty told 3AW Drive.

“Because we’ve seen those cooler breezes in the last 24 hours, it’s pushed (the haze) all the way across Bass Strait.”
