A leading Australian barrister says employers can ‘force’ employees to attend work in person, despite a growing trend of people working from home.

Speaking on 3AW Drive, Ian Neil SC said workers, in a majority of cases, were required to do what was asked of them from above.

“Employees are obliged to obey lawful and reasonable directions,” he said.

But he also had news for anybody thinking life would eventually return to “everybody” working back in the office.

“We won’t go back to that world,” he said.
