An F1 journalist says two Australian drivers could end up racing in Formula 1 next year after Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren exit.

Ricciardo contract with McLaren has been “mutually” terminated one year early, after he struggled to match his teammate Lando Norris’s pace.

F1 journalist and broadcaster for RACERmag, Chris Medland, says Ricciardo’s had “quite the fall from grace”.

“They (McLaren) had high expectations and he was hired to deliver straight away,” he told Ross and Russel.

Mr Medland says it’s “very likely” Melburnian Oscar Piastri will take the McLaren seat, but that will hinge on a decision made by the contract recognition board.

And Ricciardo could move to the Alpine team.

“Oscar could end up at McLaren, and Daniel could end up going the other way and taking the Alpine seat, because if he wants to stay in F1 that’s going to be the most competitive seat,” he said.

“And Alpine know last time they raced with Daniel things did go well.”
