The ‘serious issue’ facing Victoria that’s bothering Tom Elliott

Tom Elliott has questioned why nobody in Victoria “seems to care” about soaring debt, drawing comparisons with the state’s financial crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The parliamentary budget office has forecast Victoria’s debt, as a share of the economy, to hit almost 25 per cent in 2025-26. It was 5.5 per cent in 2018-19.

“And yet nobody is pressing the panic button yet? Nobody seems to care?” Tom Elliott asked on Friday.
