The simple measure that can significantly cut your risk of cardiovascular disease
A very easy diet change significantly reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, new research has found.
A University of Wollongong review of 182 studies reveals eating nuts reduces a person’s ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol levels markedly, reduces triglycerides and improves endothelial function.
The best part? A handful a day is enough to reduce cardiovascular disease risk by 15 per cent.
“There is no one particular nut type that seems to be having this effect,” Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong, Dr Yasmine Probst, told Ross and Russel.
Dr Probst cautioned against opting for salted nut varieties, but said roasted and smoked varieties are ok.
“We’re actually finding that the effect of cardiovascular disease risk reduction isn’t really reduced or changed by the smoking or roasting, or anything like that, of nuts,” she said.
