Victorians have this week begun receiving messages from VicRoads informing them they’ll be sent a new licence with a second number on the back, or a sticker with an additional number to place on the back of their existing licence.

But many listeners have contacted Neil Mitchell to say they’re confused by the lengthy email they’ve received from VicRoads.

Chief of metropolitan transport at the Department of Transport, Alan Fedda, says the “simple message is you don’t need to do anything”.

“We will, by the end of the year, move you on to two-step verification,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“There were about 450,000 Victorians who told us about five or six weeks ago that they felt they were impacted. They will get a physical drivers licence, a new one, by the end of the year.

“What we found out in the last few weeks, we’ve now got the Optus data confirmed, and we’ve been advised there’s a further 600,000 Victorians impacted.

“We will provide them that second number by the end of the year … but it will be on a label whilst we get a physical card out to them in the new year.”
