A simple nasal spray could drastically reduce the number of children needing their tonsils or adenoids surgically removed, according to a new study.
The research led by Murdoch Children’s Research Institute found using a saline nasal spray for six weeks led to resolved symptoms in 40 per cent of children experiencing snoring and breathing difficulties.

Deputy director of the Melbourne Children’s Trials Centre at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Associate Professor Kirsten Perrett, said “that’s 40 per cent of children that don’t need to go on and have tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy”.
“Over 40,000 Australian children every year have their tonsils and adenoids removed,” she told Ross and Russel.
