The Victorian government is implementing a significant increase to the landfill levy this year, and City of Yarra mayor Stephen Jolly thinks it’s going to “bleed councils dry”.

Councillor Jolly already had some strong comments to make on the emergency services levy, and voiced his frustration on the 28 per cent waste levy year on year.

“What’s the point of councils? If that’s what they think, they should just wipe out the councils and run everything out of Spring Street!” he said on 3AW Drive.

Press PLAY to hear him voice his frustration on the levy increase

3AW Drive host Jacqui Felgate thinks people will now start to dump rubbish everywhere, and Councillor Jolly agreed.

“Just another sneaky tax in my book,” Felgate said.
