Dee Dee Dunleavy says a social media campaign encouraging people to ‘Boycott Blue Ribbon Day’ is misguided.

It comes on the back of concern about how some police have enforced Victoria’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Several videos have gone viral online, leaving opinion divided.

But Dee Dee says boycotting a charity isn’t the answer.

“I think if you’re going to express your dislike of the police response, you do that to the powers that be – to  their superiors – not to a foundation and fundraising day that perpetuates the memory of members of Victoria Police who have died in the line of duty,” she said.

Dee Dee spoke with Neil Soullier, CEO of the Blue Ribbon Foundation, who said it was disappointing.

“It is very unfortunate,” he said.
