The staggering amount of tax Aussies will pay on a carton of beer from today

The price of beer is set to rise thanks to a 2.2 per cent increase in tax which comes into effect today.

Pubs warn it’ll drive customers away, and founder and publisher of Brews News, Matt Kirkegaard, says it also puts strain on brewers.

“Every six months we get slugged a little bit more just to have a beer,” he told Ross and Russel.
