The staggering amount stop and slow sign holders are being paid

The founder of a bricklayer’s association says his profession simply can’t compete against some of the wages being offered to hold stop and slow signs.
Brickies Network founder Andy Shaw told Jacqui Felgate he knows people who used to work in his industry now being paid almost $4,000 a week to work on government Big Build projects.

“I’ve got a friend who was a labourer taking home $3,600 a week (holding a stop-slow sign),” he said on 3AW.
“Obviously you have to work on weekends, and there are long hours you’re doing … (but) you’re still going to take up these opportunities (rather than laying bricks).”
