More than half of the top-rated restaurants in Australia are in Victoria, according to the Gourmet Traveller Guide Awards released this week.

While a Sydney restaurant, Quay, again won the top gong, there was shift towards Victorian venues across the board.

“The seachange is happening,” chief restaurant critic Pat Nourse told Ross and John.

“This year, four of the seven three-star restaurants in Australia are in Victoria.”

Those four restaurants were:

  • Attica
  • Brae
  • Cutler and Co
  • Vue de Monde

Meanwhile, new Pt Leo Estate restaurant Laura (pictured above) was named best new restaurant, and Brae was named the best regional restaurant.

That victory was part of an overall shift to the bush.

“That’s actually been quite a big swing in the awards in general this year; we had really great representation this year out in the sticks,” Nourse said.
