Tom Elliott says it’s “sad” the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine may no longer be produced in Australia, once CSL’s contract with the federal government is complete.

It’s been reported the vaccine will no longer be made here, due to the demand for Pfizer and Moderna.

Health minister Greg Hunt says production would not cease until the contract of 50 million doses was complete.

But there are no guarantees beyond that.

“I think this is very sad,” Tom Elliott, who was vaccinated with AstraZeneca, said on Thursday.

“AstraZeneca is a very good vaccine and is the only vaccine we can make right here – making us independent from the rest of the world.

“All of the UK was inoculated using AstraZeneca and it worked fine.

“We may live to regret it down the track.”
