The winner of The Voice Australia says he’s paid no attention to critics saying he only won because he was a white male.

Victorian Lachie Gill edged out fellow finalists, Thando, Jordan and Faith for the $100,000 prize and recording contract.

But not everybody was happy with the outcome, with some viewers accusing the show of “whitewashing” the competition.

Speaking on 3AW Afternoons, the 24-year-old said he’d “absolutely not” read into the criticism.

“I’m a big fan of them (fellow contestants) and they’re a big fan of me and that’s all that matters,” he said.

“I’m not going to read into anything else.”
