The voice of racing explains how he prepares for the Melbourne Cup
Iconic race caller Matt Hill says he relies on a “photographic memory” to prepare for the Melbourne Cup and other races.
All up there are around 500 horses that he will have to remember over the four days at Flemington.
“For Melbourne Cup day I started my prep for the whole meeting on Friday and today I’ve basically got my prep down pat, and now I’m looking at Oaks day already,” he said.
“It is quite a hard week on the brain, so by the end of Saturday night I’ve just about had enough I can tell you.
“It is a busy week, but I love it, it is our Grand Final … this is kind of like the reward at the end of it, and it’s a privilege to be able to do it.”
