Former head of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Rod Sims, has claimed in order to reduce gas prices in Australia, there should be a limit on the amount of gas exported.

Mr Sims believes the government should tell the big producers of gas to only sell on the spot market once enough gas has been put on the domestic market to get prices clearly below $10 a gigajoule.

Prices have gone over $40 a gigajoule in some international markets, with Mr Sims informing Tom Elliott on the state of Australian gas prices at the moment.

“We’ve got the highest domestic gas prices of any country that exports gas,” Mr Sims said.
