There’s a push in a state government department to use non-binary or neutral pronouns.

In short: ‘They‘ and ‘their‘ instead of ‘he‘ or ‘she‘.

There’s even a push to introduce ‘They Day’ at the Department of Health and Human Services; on the first Wednesday of the month, staff would get rid of ‘he‘ and ‘she‘ and use ‘they‘ instead.

An supporting video has been made by the department’s Pride Network.

Neil Mitchell asked for someone from the department to come on..

They sent him this statement:

“The Pride Network did not receive government or departmental funding for this event or the associated video, and it was not compulsory for staff to attend. DHHS is proud to be an inclusive workplace.”

But he still wanted it explained, so he was joined by Victoria’s Commissioner for Gender and Sexuality, Ro Allen.

And she did a pretty good job.

Neil: “I think the approach we just discussed is not ridiculous.  It’s not enforced; it’s not essential. If you don’t agree with it you don’t do it. If you do, you do.”
