Elderly Australians are being forced into making deadly decisions about heating in their homes, with soaring energy prices to blame.

And the CEO Victorian Council of Social Services says it’s not good enough.

Emma King told Tom Elliott there were dozens of examples of Australians dying in their own homes because they couldn’t afford to heat it, or scared about what their bill might be.

“There are some pretty devastating examples that are very real,” she said.

“It is freezing, at the moment.”

She said Australians shouldn’t have to choose between staying warm and putting food on the table.
