‘They wanted violence’: Victoria Police slam CBD protesters
Police have slammed the conduct of protesters who descended on Flinders Street Station on Sunday.
A group of anti-immigration demonstrators clashed with pro-Palestine protesters, bringing the city to a standstill.
Victoria Police’s Paul Hogan told Ross and Russ that some individuals attended the protest purely to cause violence.
“We had to deploy general duties police officers to the city,” he said on 3AW Breakfast.
Press PLAY to hear what Victoria Police thought of the protest
“Public order response team, transit police, there were protective service officers, critical incident response team, the drone unit and water police…there were a lot of resources in the city.
“Let’s be honest, a lot of those people showed up in town yesterday to have a punch on. They wanted violence.”
