Tram commuters are being warned of thieves pinching mobile phones straight out of their hands.

Listener Paul phoned in to tell Neil Mitchell about his wife who was the victim of a phone robbery last night.

Rachel was on the 59 tram to Airport West on Monday evening when a man grabbed her phone from her hands and fled into nearby commission flats.

She told Neil she understands this was one of a series of incidents that happen at the same tram stop.

‘It sounds as though they’re targeting females,’ she said.

Ainsley Ryan had just knocked off work and witnessed the whole thing.

‘He was gone, he was so fast,’ she said.

The thief timed it so he could get off the tram before the woman realised what happened.
