Thieves ransack supermarket in Melbourne’s outer-west

Thieves have ransacked a supermarket in Melbourne’s outer-west and lead police on a pursuit.
Police are investigating after the Foodworks in Claret Ash Boulevard in Harkness was broken into early this morning at 4.45am.
It’s believed thieves, who turned up in two separate cars, broke in to the supermarket using one of the cars to remove the front doors.
Police later spotted the two cars on Bulmans Road.
After a short pursuit on Minns Road and Ryans Lane on to the Melton Highway it was called off.
Terecia, a witness who lives nearby, told Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive one of the cars ripped the front doors off the supermarket in what was a terrifying incident.
“We heard this almighty crash, which we thought was a car crash,” she said.
“There were two cars and four hooded, armed assailants in and out through the doors they’d ripped off the supermarket.”
She said it appeared they were carrying an iron bar and machete.
“We have never ever experienced anything like this,” she said.
The two cars have been described as a dark-coloured Ford Ranger and a silver Mazda sedan.
