Thinking outside the box for Essendon captaincy

Essendon coach John Worsfold says Brendon Goddard is the obvious choice to captain the embattled Bombers in 2016.

But 3AW Breakfast isn’t so sure.

Of the seven-man leadership group voted on by the players shortly before Christmas, only two ? Goddard and defender Mark Baguley ? will be eligible to play this season due to doping suspensions.

And the rest of the available list doesn’t scream captaincy material.

So Brad McEwan and Ross Stevenson considered some left-field options of those who could be joining the Dons.

What about premiership Hawk Jonathan Simpkin?

Or Geelong champion James Kelly?
