‘Third world’: Woman horrified by state of Sandringham Hospital
The daughter of an 82-year-old man is demanding answers after she found him covered in blood in a filthy ward at the Sandringham Hospital.
Kate told Neil Mitchell her father was admitted to hospital with pneumonia over Easter and while at the hospital fell from bed and broke his collarbone.
The fall happened in the early hours of the morning, and when Kate went to check on her father’s condition at 10am the next day, she was horrified.

“Dad was still covered with blood from falling over, there was blood all over the floor, all over the bed,” she said.
Kate says the family were promised home help to care for her 82-year-old father, who usually resides in aged care, but more than a week on, no help has been offered.
Sandringham Hospital has apologised to Kate’s father.
Ged Williams, chief nursing officer and executive director of nursing at The Alfred, which operates Sunshine Hospital, has apologised to Kate’s father.
“We appreciate his family raising these issues and sincerely apologise to Mr Ryder for the pain and distress this incident has caused,” a statement from Mr Williams read.
“We initiated a case review last week to fully understand this incident and take appropriate action, and Mr Ryder and his family have agreed to participate in this process.”
