Up to 30 vehicles have been targeted in a vandalism spree in Melbourne’s south east, including the car of Shadow Treasurer Michael O’Brien.

Detectives are looking for those responsible after the vehicles in the Malvern and East Malvern area were damaged and items stolen.

Cars in Balwyn were also smashed on Christmas night while in Albert Park last week, a range rover was torched and six cars had windows broken.

Mr O’Brien, the local member for Malvern spoke with 3AW’s Tony Jones, he says it’s become a crime wave.

‘It seems to be a combination of absolutely mindless vandalism and mindless violence and opportunistic theft.’

‘When you’re talking about 20 or 30 cars hit in the same suburbs in the one night, this is really becoming a crime wave,’ O’Brien told 3AW Mornings.
