‘This is amazing’: Young Maya overwhelmed by Neil Mitchell’s Christmas campaign
It’s going to be a very merry Christmas for a sick child with a huge heart.
Back in March, Neil Mitchell met 12-year-old Maya Weightman.
For her birthday, she surprised her parents by asking them to take her to a Salvos shelter to feed the homeless.
But six months later, Maya ran into some very serious health problems.
She was diagnosed with scoliosis, underwent two surgeries and needed titanium rods in her back to keep it straight.
Maya spent almost two months in hospital and has a long and painful road to recovery ahead of her.
3AW Mornings wanted to help Maya and her family ahead of Christmas this year, with the help of some very generous businesses.

Thanks to:
- The Good Guys at Nunawading have given Maya an iPad for school next year.
- Chateau Yering Hotel in the Yarra Valley offered her parents a night’s accommodation.
- Mercedes-Benz Berwick have thrown in a convertible Merc for a weekend
- Lawyer David Galbally said he could organise a signed jumper and a seat at a Sydney Swans game.
An emotional and overwhelmed Maya was incredibly thankful, as were her parents.
