Tom Elliott has called Victoria’s bail system into question, after the 14-year-old youth gang member who was arrested for allegedly assaulting a student from Glen Eira Secondary College, was out on bail at the time of offending.

The 3AW Drive host delivered a passionate plea to keep repeat young offenders behind bars.

“How people who offend again and again and again, even if they are just 14, can be constantly let out is beyond me,” he said.

Criminologist from the University of Newcastle, Associate Professor Xanthe Mallett, then joined the conversation to explain why some kids tend to join youth crime gangs.
