A Moveable Feast

A Moveable Feast is taking a break over Summer, but we’ve all got to eat and drink, so Kate is still compiling some ideas to keep you occupied over the warmer months.

BREWING LA BOCA – Just in time for the opening of EVITA, a new pop up has opened out front of the Victorian Arts Centre. Stomping Ground La Boca (above) is a collaboration between Collingwood brewery Stomping Ground Brewing Co and Asado Restaurant, and is designed to replicate the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca in Buenos Aires. It’ll be open until Sunday 24th February and both theatregoers and the general public are welcome to buy a beer or Argentinian snack and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. www.artscentremelbourne.com.au

BOXING DAY BREWS – Got Christmas under control, but looking forward to relaxing on Boxing Day? How about spending it at classic Fitzroy pub the Builders Arms. Open from 12pm, they’ll have the Boxing Day Test on the front bar screen, there’ll be a fab line-up of Aussie tinnies, and you can get snacks like a Christmas Ham + Turkey Toastie or a Meatsmith frankfurt with pickles, Fireman’s mustard and crispy shallots. buildersarmshotel.com.au

MUSSEL-ING IN – Another Summer, another Portarlington Mussel Festival – this one expected to attract over 30,000 people to the Bellarine. As usual there’ll be live entertainment, cooking demonstrations and more than 10 tonne of local mussels. There’ll be 120 food and drink stalls, market stalls, and plenty of local beer and wine tastings, it is a great day out for the whole family. You can’t miss it, just head to the Portarlington Village on Saturday 12th Feb, it’s $5 for adults, kids are free. http://www.portmusselfestival.com/

ON THE HORIZON – Wondering what you should be excited about for 2019. Here’s a few new openings:

A Star is Born – Scott Pickett has officially closed his fine-diner “Estelle by Scott Pickett” in Northcote, now the old Estelle Bistro will be expanded into something pretty special, look out for an early Feb opening.

More French Fare – The Reymond family (L’Hotel Gitan and Bistro Gitan) is working on a new venture in the Richmond area. More information will be available in early January.

Oh Carolina – Burnso absolutely loves Italian diner Bar Carolina in South Yarra, so he’ll be excited to hear that owner Joe Mammone is opening a more relaxed all-day venue next door called Cantina Carolina; AND a rooftop lounge called “Tetto” that’ll serve small plates, cocktails and wine.
