THIS WEEK IN FOOD

HOLA HELLA

One of our faves, Matt McConnell from Bar Lourinha, is planning some cross-cultural collaborations this year, and they’re kicking off with a trip across the Mediterranean to explore all things Hellenic with Matt Germanchis from Anglesea’s Captain Moonlite.

The two Matts are planning a family-style feast – think Sardine & mint cigar, cuttlefish & vine leaf, and twice-cooked octopus. Ninety-five bucks will get you plenty of food, Greek wine, ouzo, plate smashing and dancing.

WAY OUT IN WARRANDYTE

Had a quick note to tell me about a new venue that has opened in Warrandyte called “It’s 12 O’clock Somewhere”…something between a local/bar/diner that promises great handcrafted beer, wines on tap, by the glass or bottle, modern share plates, gourmet pizza, and dishes fresh from the New Orleans smoker. Surely worth a look!

IDE GO IF I WERE YOU

I still remembering Peter Gunn’s IDES when it was an innovative, monthly, Monday night pop up in East Melbourne…and now, the ex-Attica chef is celebrating his second birthday in their permanent Smith Street home. It’s still innovative and impressive, and they’ve just had a dining room makeover which gives you an excuse to get back if you’ve been, or a reason to check it out in the first place!
