THIS WEEK IN FOOD – October 28
TO MARKET TO MARKET: Melbourne loves a night market, and here’s another one added to its repertoire. For four glorious weeks in November, Footscray Station will be transformed at twilight into a bustling night market, offering hawker-style food, stalls, eclectic entertainment and music. Running each Thursday night from 4pm – 8.30pm, there’ll be entertainment, music, stalls and of course food – from Japanese to Ethiopian, Malaysian to good old fashioned burgers.
THE SWEET LIFE: One of our callers mentioned this one last week on the program. November 19 and 20, wineries in the King Valley will host the ‘La Dolce Vita’ festival, a weekend celebrating that region’s rich Italian culture. If you don’t want to drive, there’ll be coaches running from nearby towns like Wangaratta, Myrtleford and Milawa, so make a weekend of it! http://www.winesofthekingvalley.com.au/
GETTIN’ WILD: I mentioned a few weeks ago Hillary McNevin’s Pep Events, well even I’ve signed up to one of the next ones. One of my favourite restaurants in the west, Copperpot, is hosting La Sirene brewery for a Wild Food/Wild beer lunch ? six courses matched with six beers. Sunday November 6 in Seddon. www.pepevents.com.au
FOCUS ON FLEMINGTON: This week the focus is clearly on Flemington and surrounds, so I asked local Scorcher Davidson for some of his hidden gems. He says pop in at Pepper Cafe for some breakfast on the way to the races, and afterwards get a cheap eat at Hem 27, or line your tummy with some decent pub grub at the Doutta Gala Hotel.
