Thousands flock to small Victorian town to see dam spectacle
Thousands of people have made the trip to a small Victorian town to witness the first dam spill in 26 years.
The Dartmouth Dam, the Murray Darling Basin’s largest water storage system, had been hovering around 99 per cent capacity for a month.
A small trickle over the dam began on Wednesday.
Mayor of Towong Shire, Councillor Andrew Whitehead, said “there’s an awful lot of people going to visit” the town of Dartmouth, which has a population of about 120 people.
“They’re getting huge numbers of people through the town,” he told Ross and Russel.
