Thousands of Australian children are without qualified teachers as a serious shortage grips the country.

According to News Corp, there are currently 1218 teacher job vacancies.

Deputy CEO of Australian Institute for Teaching & School Leadership, Edmund Mission, says it’s “a complicated problem”.

“We need to act on all fronts to solve it, I think,” he told 3AW Breakfast.

“We really need to talk up the profession at the same time as we’re looking seriously and trying to solve the problems that do exist.”
