Several thousand drivers who were pinged in a 40km/h zone at Frankston earlier this year will have their fines withdrawn.

The drivers were nabbed on the Nepean Highway between April 15 and June 16.

Road Safety Camera Commissioner Neville Taylor has told Neil Mitchell while he agrees with the decision to lower the speed limit, the signs were confusing for drivers.

“The people that were caught travelling over 40 were speeding, but there were a lot of circumstances that I discovered that I was comfortable this was uncertain for people,” he said.

“I’ve recommended for police that under provisions of their powers, they should excuse those doing between 40 and 60.”
