Lord mayor Sally Capp says the Australian Open revealed “a number of things” about Melbourne and its COVID-19 recovery.

She told Ross and Russel three things stood out to her.

“One, people want to have fun,” Councillor Capp said.

“Two, they can come together in large numbers safely.

“Three, I think the Open really said ‘Melbourne is open’.”

Cr Capp says there are now more people on the streets, and it’s a trend she wants to see continue.

“We gave ourselves permission to have a little bit of fun over the last two weeks and we liked it, so let’s keep going!,” she said.

“Our first effort is to get the state government to change their work from home advice.”
