Online doctors will soon be banned from prescribing drugs to patients they have never spoken to.

Dr Nicole Higgins, President of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, says the crackdown is aimed at preventing Australians from accessing medicine with a click of a button.

Healthcare provider Telehealth is “here to stay” says Higgins, which includes a talk with a doctor, via phone or video call.

The new change is aimed at only banning text based requests.
