Timing of ‘Water Night’ called into question

Australians are being urged to not use water between 5pm and 10pm on Thursday as part of Water Night, in a similar vein to Earth Hour.

Tom Elliott says he finds the timing strange, given the floods across Victorian and parts of NSW, with the Queensland government also making water free for a fortnight and urging residents to use as much water as possible to help lower the level of the Winenhoe Dam.

Chris Philpot, CEO of Water Conservancy, said the message wasn’t about “saving water” but highlighting the importance of it.

“It’s actually about making us more aware about the water we use around the home,” he said.
