There are some ways prospective renters can ensure they’re front of mind for agents and landlords when looking to secure a home according to a property expert.

It comes as the national rental vacancy rate fell to one per cent, it’s lowest rate in years.

Leah Calnan, Director and Past President of Real Estate Institute of Victoria, said those hoping to secure a property don’t need to get into a bidding war.

“Complete your application as thorough as you possibly can,” she told Tony Jones, filling in

“Don’t leave out any parts of it, put a cover letter, sell your story, tell the agent why they really should consider putting their application forward, and having that further discussion with the owner.”
